About Recreation District #1 / Pelican Park
Recreation District No. 1 of St. Tammany Parish is a cornerstone of community life and regional recreation in southeast Louisiana. Located in Mandeville, the district spans over 550 acres and serves more than 75,000 residents, welcoming over 2 million visitors annually, with daily attendance reaching 12,000–13,000 during peak seasons.
At the heart of the district is Pelican Park, a dynamic, multi-purpose complex featuring:
- 32 athletic fields for soccer, baseball, and softball
- Two indoor gyms (three- and four-court)
- The 46,000-square-foot Castine Center, supporting sports, events, and civic activities
- Disc golf, walking trails, a dog park, sand volleyball courts, and over 1,700 parking spaces
- The Groves, a 2019 addition with eight pickleball courts, outdoor fitness equipment, a pond-side boardwalk, green space, and a family game area with horseshoe, bocce, shuffleboard, and cornhole
