Full-Time Positions Available

 

-Executive Director - Full-Time Position

Salary Range: $88-$127,000/year 

The Executive Director is the chief administrative officer of the Recreation District/Pelican Park and reports directly to the Board of Commissioners. The Executive Director is responsible for the implementation of District policy and overall management of the District’s park and recreation system.  Primary focus includes adhering to the District’s statutory responsibilities and providing quality recreation and outstanding facilities to our community.  The Executive Director manages all day-to-day operations and activities of the District. This includes acting as the head of all divisions: administration, parks, recreation, environmental management/education and the multi-purpose Castine Center Event Center.  Responsibilities also include business management, facility development, personnel management, developing and administering of the annual budget.

This position is a full-time, salaried position and thus does not qualify for overtime. A competitive benefit package for health insurance, retirement, holidays, and vacation is included. Work is generally Monday-Friday, but will frequently involve working evenings and weekends.

Required Skills and Abilities: 

  • CPRP certification or the ability to obtain certification within one year of hiring.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation from an accredited school preferred. Degrees from non-accredited schools and degrees in similar fields or Business Administration will be considered.  Master’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years Park and Recreation Experience, or similar community service provisioning, with five of those in a management role of similar breadth and complexity
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with a seven (7) member administrative board.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to pass a background check in accordance with NRPA standards

 

Must be able to express ideas effectively both orally and in writing; ability to problem solve; demonstration of good common sense; ability to coordinate and lead subordinate supervisory personnel; must possess strong interpersonal communication and leadership skills; a high level of ethics and dedication to the profession.

-Labor & Maintenance - Full-Time Position

Pelican Park Facility Staff, Starting at $16.50/hour 

Recreation District #1/Pelican Park, which is a public agency, is seeking to fill openings for Labor Maintenance. This position offers 40 hrs. per week and does involve some overtime and weekend work. This position offers great benefits such as paid health /dental insurance, retirement, vacation and sick leave. The starting salary is $16.50 per hour. This is an outdoor position that does include working in all weather conditions, such as rain, snow and heat.

Job Duties Include: 

  • Maintaining and prepping sports fields and facilities 
  • Mowing and weed eating
  • Picking up trash
  • Maintain green areas
  • Performing janitorial duties
  • Assist in repairs and preventative maintenance to facilities and fields
  • Assist in irrigation, sod repairs and small construction projects, etc.
  • Must be able to pass a physical, drug screen, background check, and capable of lifting 50 lbs.

Part-Time Positions Available

 

- Pelican Park Recreation Facility Staff, Starting at $16.50/hour

This staff works in the park in the evenings and on weekends preparing for practices and games, turning on lights, attending to restrooms, some field set up, meeting the public, answering questions and problem-solving.  This position works outside the majority of the time and requires the ability to be able to lift 50lbs.  Communicates with other staff and management on a two-way radio and takes public calls via phone.  It also requires the ability to communicate in written form.  Flexible hours.



- Castine Center Event Staff, Starting at $16.50/hour

The staff works in the Castine Center to maintain all areas of the facility in "show condition" at all times including before, during and after events. Duties include but are not limited to cleaning restrooms, removing trash from all areas of the building, cleaning and setting up tables and/or chairs, vacuuming, mopping and cleaning interior/exterior windows. Position requires the ability to lift 50lbs, communicate with other staff and management via two-way radio and communicate verbally with rental groups. This is a part-time position with the majority of scheduled hours on evenings and/or weekends.



- Concessions Staff, Starting at $10.00/hour

Concession Staff workers are responsible for selling concessions to spectators at a variety of sports and local events. Welcoming guests at the concession stand, taking orders for food or beverage, presenting prices, and options, processing cash payments, operating food preparation equipment, and maintaining the concession area so it is clean and sanitized.
