Everyone on a nature walk notices the centuries-old Live Oak tree, the charismatic Cardinal perched in song, or the Monarch Butterfly floating from flower-to-flower. In Hidden in Plain Sight: Noticing the Unnoticed, local naturalist and iNaturalist poweruser Nate Bonnett will take us on a deep dive into the natural world of the overlooked: he will tell us about the understudied world of galls (a botanical defense against insect intrustion), leafminers (tiny insects that make a living inside leaf tissue), phoresis (nature's version of hitchhiking), parasitism, and more. You'll leave with a big curiousity for the smaller scale!
Nate Bonnett is the St. Tammany Parish species leader on iNaturalist. He has catalogued more species in St. Tammany than any other person in the world. He has multiple state-firsts, mostly insects, and is an avid moth sheeter in his suburban backyard.
