2026NP - Bats of the Boot - Jun 25

June 25th at 5:30PM; Presentation at 6:00pm. The Back Packer Mandeville, 3908 LA-22, Mandeville, LA.

Cost: free!

Bats are often thought of as scary despite offering a galore of benefits to humans. Presenter Carissa Thiel will explore these diverse, misunderstood creatures by discussing bat adaptations, how bats are studied, and taking a closer look at the 12 species found right here in Louisiana. Join us as we debunk myths, increase our nocturnal knowledge, and fly into the night with a better understanding of our mammal relatives!

Carissa Thiel is an environmentalist and lifelong learner. She previously worked in environmental education, teaching about animal adaptations and the joys of nature. She currently works as a Wildlife Biologist, and her favorite portion of the job is conducting bird surveys and bat mist netting. In her spare time, Carissa enjoys reading, biking (the nonmotorized variety), and walking her giant dog.

Bats of the Boot is a free environmental program of Pelican Park/Recreation District with support from The Back Packer Mandeville and Carissa Thiel.
